2010 Camaro SS Racecar Build

CAMARO’S BACK & SOON TO BE BLISTERING THE TRACKS!!!

CONFESSION / COMMITMENT

After the first few minutes with the plasma cutter when you know you’ve passed the point of no-return - gutting a new car like this no longer has the impact that it did at the outset.  We do realize, however, that we’re not cutting apart just any new car.  We’re in the process of transforming one of the latest and long awaited icons coming out of Detroit into an asphalt ripping G-Machine that will grace Victory Lane.   And when it does - people will notice!

Watch this Build Site  as we take you step by step through the creation of a full-on Roadrace Camaro.

If you’ve seen the Transformers movies - you know Bumblebee ..

The difference here is this is REAL baby...  This Bad Bee is going to STING the competition like they’ve never been stung before...

This car will be legal for NASA’s American Iron class. Eventually we’d like to see cars like this one accepted by the SCCA in American Sedan.

Literally one month old from the day it was built - This SS gets broken down to a shell and sub-assemblies..  At this point we have accumulated 300 pictures of the disassembly process and the various components and sub-assemblies.  We’ll get a photo gallery online soon where you’ll be able to look over this car in a way that very few people have ever seen before..

Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig together couldn’t help this poor girl..  This car is on a strict “If it’s not needed - it goes” diet..  With our primary focus for this car on NASA’s American Iron class - we started removing the un-needed metal and pOOky (more later)..

Rocker Jim Morrison had an electric personality - but he didn’t pack a charge like this..

Using a High Voltage Plasma Cutter to “trim” the fat from this baby’s doors was the only way to fly.  Here Dave’s just about got the inner panel loose.

Jungle-Gym / Monkey Bars / Cage

Call it what you like - but it’s the one key component of any racecar chassis that will keep the driver intact while absorbing the abuse of a crash.  Here you’ll see some of the pictures we took while constructing the cage.  More to be posted in our gallery later..

The body now gets prepped for its new paint job...

Not certain which way we wanted to go with a paint job - we solicited our friends on the forums for idea submissions.  One very talented individual by the name of Joe (AKA Dragoneye) on the Camaro5.com forum came up with the winning design.

Carriage House partnered with Ron Davis Radiators (of NASCAR fame) to create a new line of Competition Radiators that will be direct bolt-in replacements for the OEM radiator.

This radiator has a built in cooler for the transmission.

You can order this radiator for your 2010 Camaro directly from Carriage House Customs.

It’s been a crazy last couple of weeks in the shop as the Camaro continues it’s transformation from Pony-Car into Track-Warrior...

From Grocery Getter to G-Machine.

Our friends at Pfadt Race Engineering came through with components that are truly worthy of being called “Aerospace” quality...

The rear end in our Camaro was well built by the General - but it was not built for the rigors of competition.  We Take it the next step and fully race-prep it.

The Ron Davis Radiator and Oil Coolers needed a little protection in case there was any sort of impact.  Also - we needed to fabricate and install the mandatory Tow Hooks.

The factory front suspension, engine & transmission cradle is heavy and not quite made for the rigors of competition with it’s thin mounting points and sloppy bolt holes. Check out this new Totally Tubular Chrome-Moly alternative now available from Carriage House Customs!
